If you work with multiple connections in Dropshare it can be difficult to manage and keep track of which hotkeys activate, capture, and upload. Fortunately, an app like Keyboard Maestro can make it really easy to manage all of these actions with only 1 hotkey.
I started with the initial set up of all the shortcuts in Dropshare. After remapping a few of the system shortcuts for screen shots (System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Screen Shots), I set up all of my Dropshare action shortcuts in a sequence to use ⇧⌘2 up to ⇧⌘6, eg. Capture & upload selection is triggered by ⇧⌘2.
Next, I set up shortcuts for all of my connections. I used a sequence of ^⌥⌘1 up to ^⌥⌘3 for my 3 connections.
Now that all the shortcuts are in place, you can set up Keyboard Maestro macros for each action and connection. First, create a new Group and add a macro. I like to prefix my macro names with a number so when the macro palette is triggered, I can quickly type the number of the macro to activate it. Set the trigger to be a hotkey, this hotkey will be used for all the Dropshare-related macros in the group. Next, add the “Type a Keystroke” action and set it to the connection shortcut you created earlier. Add a “Pause” action to offset the time it takes Dropshare to switch the active connection. Finally, add another “Type a Keystroke” action to trigger the Dropshare action shortcut. Repeat for each additional macro.
Now, when you invoke the Keyboard Maestro trigger, you are presented with a palette to select from a list of Dropshare actions. So it takes me just one hotkey to do 6 different actions across 3 different connections.
I am sure someone with programming skills could simplify all the macros into a single macro with variables, but this is simple enough to get the job done.
Note: I remapped my Caps Lock key so it actually has a functional purpose. I use it as my main trigger for all custom actions on my system. If you are interested, follow this tutorial: http://leancrew.com/all-this/2012/11/shift-control-option-command-on-caps-lock/ - it is life-changing.
